Wacom Intuos 4 – First Try

intous4It’s been about a month since I have been using the Wacom Intuos 4 tablet. It really is worth spending for. I tried using this thing for 3 different aspects. 1 – Photoshop, 2 – Flash and 3 – Everything on Mac OS X (replacing mouse).

Photoshop was a whole new sophisticated experience with Intuos 4. Now, when it comes to web designing, I still prefer mouse over this, but when it comes to brush strokes, effects, tilt, pressure, digital painting, etc., way to go Wacom! Too good. Here is a start off of my basic digital painting. I have been experimenting more on this and hopefully will post more on the Art section of this site.

Replacing mouse completely with Intuos 4 is OK for a normal use. While using the graphic pen, sometimes when you feel your hand needs rest, you cant leave the cursor where it is. Also especially in gaming, mouse seems more precise. Otherwise, for a normal Mac work, I still love using this pen. Flash also was not that satisfactory with the pen for my kind of work where it is game development or precise design for mobiles. People with animation in mind, something like a cartoon storyboard oriented animation, can use Intuos 4 to double their ease compared to mouse.

The new shortcut menu option and ability to set custom actions for buttons according to the application we use is something very useful. Still need to get my hands more on this thing. But overall, no regrets to have spent good amount on this. :)
